Virtual Pop Star of the Day: Aimi Eguchi, a Japanese pop star and recent recruit to hugely popular idol group AKB 48, turns out to be just a really pretty CGI creature. The frankenpopstar is made up of features from six other members of the group.
AKB 48 fans first suspected there was something unusual about Eguchi when she landed a commercial for Glico's Aisu no Mi candy, which is unprecedented for a brand-new idol. "Aimi" sounds a lot like Aisu no Mi, and Eguchi's photos all appear — at the very least — heavily Photoshopped.
The details turned out to be even weirder than fans first thought: Eguchi's birthday is the founding date of Glico, and her favorite sport, track and field, was chosen based on the company's odd slogan "Hitotsubu 300 meter."
