Zoe Beloff

What artwork/proposals did you present?
I presented a range of my work, from the electro-bike and i'd hit that, to work that will be rooted in more meditative elements, such as the Light/Sound wind chimes.

What topics did you discuss? What was the nature of this discussion?
We discussed the ideas behind meditative work, work that reacted to environments, goofy and silly work. She was receptive to my perspectives and approach and seemed interested in coming along side me and offering insight and advise that would help me to clarity and my goals.

What were the critical reactions/ suggestions to your ideas/artwork?
She suggested thinking about pairing the goofy and meditative together. She was the first to raise that as a possibility, only to have that suggested to me again by John Simon a few days later. An interesting "sycronicity" moment.

What was a suggested plan of action?
She introduced me to the work of Natalie Jeremijenko, artist/scientist, which includes a kiddy ride which has movement synced to the stock market's fluctuations; a piece named "Live Wire"- a string attached to a step motor attached to a network, network activity caused the string to twitch, yielding a peripherally noticeable indication of traffic.

Beloff also suggested looking at Paul DeMarinis's work, (also suggested by Steven Vitiello).

What insights / new questions / ideas did you take from the meeting? How did this meeting affect how you will proceed with your project / proposal?
Something I already knew, but it's importance was underscored by Beloff's visit- the desired end result. the "why?" of my work. What do I want the audience to think about through my work. How can I make my work matter?
