Kinect for Windows of the Day

Kinect for Windows of the Day: Microsoft has big plans for Kinect for Windows, which launches on February 1st, and not all of them revolve around games.

In a new blog post, the company said the new Kinect will "enhance how data is captured and accessed within intelligent systems across manufacturing, retail and many more industries," and said that they're building the platform in a way that will let other companies integrate it into their products.

In the real world, that means we could see the Kinect in hospitals, as a virtual try-on station at clothing retailers, as a training device or a robot controller in factories, and as a classroom teaching tool.

The new Kinect will be a little more expensive, at $249, because it's not subsidized by game sales like the Xbox version, but the price point is still low enough that we should be seeing plenty of Kinect units in use outside the living room.
