Beneath the apparent continuity of mechanisms and of their textual legitimations, there is the slide of yeserday's dialectical provocations towards new figures of the composition of the heterogenous. These multiple slidings range under four major types of contemporary exhibition: The Game, The Inventory, The Encounter, The Mystery
The Game
- the double-game
- NOT the Schillerian suspension of the relations of domination
- the suspension of meaning in the collages presented
- the works' value as polemic revelation has become undecidable
- undecidability is at the heart of the work
- a redoubling of spectacle, no longer invites us to read signs in objects in order to understand the jurisdictions of our world
- sharpen our perception of the play of signs
- sharpen our consciousness of the fragility of the procedures of the reading of those signs
- sharpen our pleasure at playing with the undecidable
Trajectory:
As these procedures of delegitimization passed from critical to ludic
- becomes indistinguishable from power, media, market's form of presentation
- humor becomes dominant mode of exhibiting commodities
- advertising increasingly plays on undecidability of a product's value
- only remaining subversion is to play on this undecidability
- to suspend, in a society working towards the accelerated consumption of signs, the meaning of the protocols of reading those signs
