Quote examining the word (Citation included):

“There has been a reevaluation of our slave philosophy that permitted us to be satisfied with the leftovers at the back door rather than demand a full serving at the family dinner table”
Aaron Henry

“Leftovers in their less visible form are called memories. Stored in the refrigerator of the mind and the cupboard of the heart.”
Thomas Fuller

“Art is what's left over after you've defined everything else”
Michael Vitale (I wonder if this person is related to Laura Vitale?)

TVs, frail, quiet, showing technology in a form that it wasn't intended. Repurposing a glitch, using a "throw away" element, these lines appear at the end of the device's use. What else appears at the end of something use? What appears at the end? Could this be considered under "fragments"? Left-overs?

constructions in his studio, then photographs, edition of 1, interventions of space, fragmentations, occur in his studio/workspace, not a focus on destination. he always takes it down afterwards, the photographic evidence is all that's left. edition of 1, and an artist proof, mean these have very little "proof" of existence. the photograph is what's revealed at the end? is this the connection? the end? I'll think about that...

face recognition

Fragmented faces, interactive piece, technology is clear, perhaps too heavy? is it fun? is it addicting, to replace bits of my face with others? this is a lot like what made my body grids so much fun. the interface was so low-tech in my case, i'm really curious if this interface is too hi-tech. how about the end? does it reveal something? is there an end? maybe no end, just when the piece is unplugged. so it's about the experience? what does the viewer walk away with? a sense of self? a complex about the bags under my eyes?

painting, surreal, protagonist always in machine/insect apparatus. died at 25, by train accident, many believe it was suicide. he chose his own end? the pieces aren't particularly uplifting, rather depressing, seem to capture the feeling of life- futility, emptiness, fear, reclusiveness…. did he paint to illustrate what he saw around him, what he felt inside him. there's girl, a partner, in some of these pieces. was that not enough to keep him from the train? what was revealed to him in the end? i want to know.

unusual, keen eye. spots details and perspectives that resonate with me. feels like "straight photography", with an edge. I'm not exactly sure what it is that attracts me to this body- perhaps the uncanniness.

One thing for sure that I like about his work, is that it seems all the work is shot as collections, beginning as books. The photos might be pulled out and exhibited individually later on, but the body is shot intended to be part of a book.

Street art, hope, we need more of this. Candy Chang's background is interesting-

M.S. Urban Planning, Columbia University, 2007
Thesis on neighborhood communication in public space

B.F.A. Graphic Design, University of Michigan, 2001

B.S. Architecture, University of Michigan, 2001

Urban planning... and interesting perspective that definitely parallels art, and my interest in relating to people through art. I wonder what other parallels there are- urban planning, social work, neighborhood outreach (is that a career path?) that would allow me to exercise creativity.
